Former U.S. Department of Labor Chief Economist Sarah Jane Glynn hired as VP of Research; Columbia Law Professor and LGBTQ+ Rights Expert Suzanne B. Goldberg joins Board of Directors

Los Angeles, CA Gender Equity Policy Institute (GEPI), a nonprofit advancing data-driven solutions to achieve gender and economic equity, today announced two major additions to its leadership team. Sarah Jane (SJ) Glynn, former Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of Labor, has joined as Vice President of Research, and Suzanne B. Goldberg, Columbia Law Professor and nationally recognized expert on gender and sexuality law, has been elected to the Board of Directors.

As Vice President of Research, Glynn will shape GEPI’s agenda to produce studies that drive meaningful change in gender and economic policy at both state and national levels. She brings a keen eye for emerging issues and a track record of innovative research that will further position GEPI at the frontlines of gender equity work.

Prior to joining GEPI, Glynn served as Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of Labor under the Biden–Harris administration and as Senior Advisor in the Department’s Women’s Bureau. She previously directed women’s economic policy at the Center for American Progress and held fellowships with the Roosevelt Institute and the National Academy of Social Insurance. Glynn has authored influential publications on women’s economic security, the care economy, and workplace benefits, with her research directly shaping federal and state policies.

“SJ’s work has already shaped policy at the highest levels, and we feel so fortunate to have her join our organization and guide our research initiatives,” said Dr. Nancy L. Cohen, Founder and CEO of GEPI. “Her expertise and vision will be invaluable as we continue to translate data into policies that expand economic opportunity and advance gender equity nationwide.”

Additionally, GEPI has welcomed Suzanne B. Goldberg to its Board of Directors. Goldberg is widely recognized as one of the nation’s foremost experts on gender and sexuality law and a prominent advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. She co-founded Columbia Law School’s Center for Gender and Sexuality Law and has held senior federal positions advancing civil rights, including Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights and Senior Advisor at the U.S. Department of State.

“Suzanne brings a rare combination of legal expertise, policy experience, and a lifelong commitment to equity,” said Dr. Cohen. “Her guidance on our Board will strengthen GEPI’s ability to tackle complex legal and social issues, particularly those affecting women and LGBTQ+ communities.”
